My Story
Hi I'm Alex and this is my story.
My journey into cybersecurity began during my Computer Engineering undergraduate studies at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy) in 2013, inspired by the Edward Snowden revelations. At the time, there weren’t any dedicated cybersecurity courses at my university, and the field itself was still emerging globally. Despite this, my growing curiosity led me to connect with a professor running a related master's programme. This eventually led to my undergraduate dissertation on SCADA Security, which opened the door for me to pursue a master’s degree in Information Security at Royal Holloway, University of London.
After completing my studies, I started my career as a Penetration Tester, and I’ve been an ethical hacker ever since. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working across the globe, performing penetration tests for companies of all sizes, from small startups to Fortune 500 enterprises. My career highlights include securing critical infrastructure for financial institutions, identifying vulnerabilities in large-scale cloud environments, and testing innovative technologies like blockchain platforms and IoT devices. I’ve even conducted security assessments on ATMs, GoPros and airport systems, which were a huge milestone for me personally.
I’ve gained experience across a wide range of industries, including finance, healthcare, e-commerce, and technology, and I’ve tackled challenges involving both traditional and emerging technology stacks. My work has always been driven by a passion for technology and ensuring its security. To maintain the freedom to pursue my passion for security and technology, I founded my own company, Rivanorth, as a way to fully express and live out that passion.
